Chamber History

How the Community Began

Long before today's local businesses, events, and community organizations, Rio Linda and Elverta were rural agricultural communities in northern Sacramento County.

1844: The land was part of Rancho Del Paso, a Mexican land grant.

1908: Elverta was established near the Sacramento Northern Electric Railway.

1912–1913: The Rio Linda area was subdivided for settlement and renamed Rio Linda.

1920s: Agriculture, particularly poultry farming, became an important part of the local economy.

The railroad helped connect the area to Sacramento and other communities, while farming brought residents and businesses to the region.

A Shared Community

Rio Linda and Elverta developed a shared identity as the area grew. Historical accounts describe an association between the two communities forming in 1942, during a period when the area's poultry industry was becoming well known.
